Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees

Caren Luke, Tom Spread and Jeffrey Stone.

Doug Krieger and Becky Wichers.

Minutes:
Moved by Jeffrey Stone, and seconded by Caren Luke, to approve the
minutes of the September 15, 2011 regular meeting as amended to include the
Brad Burns Trust as the source of funding for the installation of permanent
wrought iron fencing on three sides of the foundation at the 1042 Mulberry
Avenue property. Motion carried.
Bills:
Moved by Mark Huddleston, seconded by Jennifer Conard, to approve
payment of monthly bills totaling $506.61 and credit card bills totaling $212.70.
Motion carried. All signed with two signatures.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Collections:
Jan Henderson reported
1)
De-accession of Collection Pieces
. The Committee met and reviewed the
collection pieces that Barb Christensen and Registrar Virginia Cooper earmarked
for de-accession. The Committee recommended that the pieces be de-
accessioned and disposed of according to the preferred method outlined in the
Code of Ethics, Article III, Section C “Acquisition and De-accession” with funds
realized from the sale going back into the General Trust and earmarked for
collections. Following discussion, it was moved by Mark Huddleston, seconded
by Caren Luke to accept the Committee’s recommendation. Motion carried. This
is an on-going process and other pieces to be earmarked for future de-
accession.
2)
Mary Cassatt Oil Pastel
, Portrait of Margaret Milligan Sloane, dated 1893,
on loan to the Art Center from an anonymous lender beginning October 21, 2011.
The painting is covered under the City of Muscatine insurance and will be on loan
for a year. The painting will hang above the fireplace in the front parlor. A news
release is forthcoming.

Buildings & Grounds:
Jennifer Conard reported.
1) Fencing at 1402 Mulberry Property: A bid of $2,518.00 from James R.
McKiddy, for a 42” tall iron fence placed around the existing foundation was
accepted. In keeping with City Code, the fence will have no sharp points on the
top and will be slightly higher than the existing fence located on the grounds.
Fence installed this fall and following installation, Kellor & Kellor will transplant
the bushes. Concrete retaining wall completed on October 19, 2011. The small
section of sidewalk, at the top of the sidewalk leading up to the foundation is still
in need of repair. Parks and Recreation Department will top seed the area this
fall.

Financial Reports
for June, July and August 2011 were received and
reviewed. No action required.
2)
Support Foundation
meeting in January 2012. Barb Christensen will submit
funding request before the scheduled meeting.
3)
A $4,000 Matching Grant for Friends
received from the Community
Foundation of Greater Muscatine. This is the Foundation’s highest awarded
grant and it scored the most points.

Doherty received a scholarship to attend the meeting in Des Moines, Iowa on
October 16-18, 2011

met on October 13, 2011.

Board vacancy
– Tom Spread is running unopposed for Muscatine City
Council seat and will be resigning from the Board of Trustees. Board discussed
potential names for his replacement. Barb Christensen will contact the
individuals to see if they have any interest in serving on the Board.
4)
Vacation –
Barb Christensen will be on vacation from October 24-31, 2011.

on Display at Art Center” and advertisement for the “Festival of Wreaths – A
Holiday Salon” in the
101 Things to Do Fall/Winter 2011
publication.

Phillip Hubbart
book signing,
An Iowa Soldier Writes Home,
will take place at
the Art Center on Sunday, October 30, 2011, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM followed by an
invitation only reception from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Roy & Pat Carvers’ residence.
Fran Riley from KWQT-TV6 will do a piece on the exhibition and interview Phillip
on Monday, October 31, 2011 in Muscatine.
3)
Carol Ehlers
will hold a public lecture on Sunday, November 6, 2011 at 2:00
PM -
Toulouse-Lautrec: Montmartre and Scenes of the Night
that is part of the
Gilmore collection.
4)
Rotary Guest Night
scheduled for Monday, November 7, 2011, from 5:30 –
7:00 PM.
5)
Festival of Wreaths: A Holiday Salon
scheduled on Saturday, November
19, 2011 from 5:30 – 8:00 PM. Tickets on sale - $20.00 for members of Friends
and $25.00 for non-members. Dinner at the mansion to be auctioned.
6)
Sunday with Santa
scheduled for December 4, from 1:00 – 5:00 PM and is
open to the public.
