    Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees
    Muscatine Art Center
    March 17, 2011
    Present:
    Mark Huddleston, Jan Henderson, Caren Luke, Jennifer Conard, Tom Spread, Jeffrey Stone
    and Becky Wichers.
    Absent:
    David Meloy and Doug Krieger.
    Staff:
    Barb Christensen
    President, Tom Spread opened the meeting.
    Visitors:
    No visitors present.
    Minutes:
    It was moved by Becky Wichers, seconded by Jennifer Conard to approve the minutes of the
    February 17, 2011, regular meeting as distributed. Motion carried.
    Bills:
    It was moved by Caren Luke, seconded by Jeffrey Stone to approve payment of monthly bills
    totaling $9,343.56. Motion carried. Tom Spread and Becky Wichers signed the Schedule of Bills by
    Fund.
    Credit Card Expenses
    - Monthly credit card expenses totaling $24.95 were approved for payment. Tom
    Spread and Becky Wichers signed the Monthly Log of Credit Card Expenditures.

    Collections:
    Jan Henderson reported.
    1)
    Muscatine County Civil War Memorial Sculpture housed on Muscatine County Court
    House Grounds
    – The Board discussed a monetary contribution to the Muscatine County Civil War
    Memorial Fund. Following discussion, it was moved by Jan Henderson and seconded by Becky Wichers
    to contribute to the Muscatine County Civil War Memorial Fund in the amount of $2,500 with funds
    coming from the E. Bradford Burns Trust. Motion carried.
    Building & Grounds:

    Art Center Security
    -
    Mark
    Huddleston reported on additional security project. Report tabled
    until next meeting.
    2)
    Walkway Lights
    – Jeff Hackett Electric is working on the lights.
    3)
    Elevators
    - FYI report. There is a safety concern with the operating system of the elevator
    during a fire. Barb Christensen will bring this concern to the City and request funds to correct this safety
    issue come out of the Building/Grounds Budget.
    4)
    Muscatine Branching Out and Keep Muscatine Beautiful
    will plant shade trees on April 16,
    2011 from 8:00 A to Noon. Barb Christensen will work with the groups to ensure trees are planted in the
    appropriate places. Barb also indicated that volunteers are needed to help plant and she will send a
    reminder email to the board members.

    – No financials received except for the Trust Funds.
    Long Range Planning:
    No report.
    Personnel:
    Barb Christensen reported.
    1)
    Board of Trustee Members -
    Several names were discussed for consideration for new Board
    of Trustee members. Tom Spread will contact these individuals to determine their interest.
    2)
    Summer Intern
    - The Friends of the Muscatine Art Center voted to fund a student intern this
    summer in an amount up to $1,500. Barb Christensen will contact Miles Dietz, last year’s intern, to see if
    he is interested in the internship.
    Program/Publicity
    : Barb Christensen reported.
    1)
    Committee Name Change:
    Barb Christensen and Becky Wichers will meet to discuss name
    change of the committee to the Education Committee.
    The name change request and by-law amendment
    will be included on the April 2011 agenda.
    Program Coordinator’s Report
    : Barb Christensen reported.
    1)
    Mosaic Project
    reception for Elementary Schools scheduled for Sunday, March 27, 2011,
    from 1:00 – 5:00 PM.
    2)
    Leadership Muscatine
    graduation will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2011.
    3)
    Muscatine County Arts Council
    will hold a reception at the end of the Mosaic project on
    Sunday, April 17, 2011, which will be the final opportunity for public to bid and purchase canvasses.
    4)
    Relay for Life
    will make luminaries four times during the spring.
    5)
    Sarah Wilmer Collection –
    Dorothy Johnson, Roy J. Carver Professor of Art History, will
    speak on Saturday, April 30, 2011at 2:00 PM.

    Sarah Wilmer Display Gallery
    – Barb Christensen reported that bids to renovate atrium area
    by the elevator for future display of this acquisition have not been requested as of this meeting.
