    Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees
    Muscatine Art Center
    December 17, 2010
    Present:
    Jennifer Conard, Mark Huddleston, Jan Henderson, Doug Krieger, Caren Luke, David Meloy
    Tom Spread Jeffrey Stone and Becky Wichers.
    Absent:

    President, Tom Spread opened the meeting.
    Visitors:
    None present.
    Minutes:
    It was moved by Jeffrey Stone, seconded by Becky Wichers to approve the minutes of the
    November 18, 2010 regular meeting as distributed. Motion carried.
    Bills:
    It was moved by Caren Luke, seconded by Jennifer Conard to approve for payment monthly bills
    totaling $3,722.74. Motion Carried. Caren Luke and Tom Spread signed the Schedule of Bills by Fund.
    Credit Card Expenses
    - There were no credit card expenditures submitted for approval.
    COMMITTEE REPORTS:
    Collections:
    Barb Christensen reported.
    1)
    Sarah Wilmer Estate
    - The Art Center received twelve pieces of art from the Sarah Wilmer
    Estate instead of eleven as previously reported. An additional Renoir print was not previously listed. A
    special thank you goes to Virginia Cooper and her husband for transporting the collection from
    Pennsylvania to the Art Center at a significant cost savings to the Art Center.
    2)
    Civil War flag
    from the Art Center’s permanent collection is being restored with the help of the
    State Historical Society. The cost of the conservation is included in the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust
    grant for the Civil War exhibit.
    Building & Grounds:
    Barb Christensen reported.
    1)
       Art Center Security – 
    ITP contacted regarding adding additional security to our existing 
    security system to accommodate the Sarah Wilmer collection.    
     
    2)
       Walkway Lighting – 
    The lighting on the front sidewalk is not working.  Jeff Hackett Electric 
    has been contacted about this on‐going electrical issue. 
    3)
    Garage Roof Shingling
    - Work completed by the City’s Building & Grounds Department.
     
    Finance & Budget:
    Caren Luke reported.
    1)
    Financials
    – The monthly financials for October and November reviewed. No action taken.
    2)
    2011/2012 Budget
    submitted to the City. Barb Christensen and Tom Spread will have a
    preliminary meeting with the City Administrator and Finance director on Friday, December 17, 2010.
    3)
    Budget Session with the City Council
    will be late afternoon on Saturday, January 29, 2011.
    It was suggested that members of Friends of the Muscatine Art Center be asked to attend the budget
    session this year in support of the Art Center. Barb will contact the Friends.
    4)
    Support Foundation budget ended November 30, 2010
    reviewed. No action required.

    Alisa Phillips
    , Iowa Wesleyan student and daughter of Jan Phillips, has completed the
    Service Learning project.
    Program/Publicity
    : Barb Christensen reported.
    1)
    Toye Reception –
    Barb expressed special thanks to Tom and Wina Spread for hosting the
    Toye reception at their home on November 30, 2010. Richard and Stanley Toye were very pleased to
    have the opportunity to meet members of the Board.
    2)
    The Friends Festival of Wreaths Fundraising Event
    . The event held throughout the
    mansion this year was a success. The event raised between $3,500 and $4,000.
    3)
    Leadership Muscatine Cultural Arts Family Night
    was held on Tuesday, December 7,
    2010, in the Musser Museum and Stanley Gallery. The evening featured music by the Muscatine
    Symphony Orchestra and the MCC Variety Singers and a scavenger hunt in the Musser Museum.

    1)
    Eckhardt Estate
    is settled with the Support Foundation receiving cash in an amount of
    $186,000.00.
    New Business
    : Barb Christensen reported.
    1) The Board moved its meeting downstairs into the atrium by the elevator where Barb
    Christensen presented a proposed plan to renovate the area for future display of the recent acquisition
    from the Sarah Wilmer estate. Following discussion, it was moved by Tom Spread, seconded by David
    Meloy, that Barb Christensen request bids for this project. Motion carried.
