    Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees
    Muscatine Art Center
    November 18, 2010
    Present:
    Caren Luke, Jan Henderson, Tom Spread, Becky Wichers, Jennifer Conard,
    and Mark Huddleston
    Absent:
    Doug Krieger, David Meloy, and Jeffrey Stone.
    Staff:

    President, Tom Spread opened the meeting.
    Visitors:
    None present.
    Minutes:
    It was moved by Becky Wichers, seconded by Jennifer Conard to approve the minutes of the
    October 21, 2010 regular meeting. Motion carried.
    Bills:
    It was moved by Mark Huddleston and seconded by Jan Henderson to approve for payment
    monthly bills totaling $1,527.25 . Motion Carried. Tom Spread and Mark Huddleston signed the
    Schedule of Bills by Fund.
    Credit Card Expenses
    - It was moved by Jan Henderson, seconded by Becky Wichers to approve for
    payment monthly credit card expenses totaling $1,981.13. This amount is for Arcadia Publisher of History
    Books and Post Cards that will be sold at various entities in the city. Motion carried. Mark Huddleston
    and Tom Spread signed the Monthly Log of Credit Card Expenditures.
    COMMITTEE REPORTS
    Collections:
    Barb Christensen reported.
    1) Barb Christensen has received approval from the City for a “road trip” to pick up the recent
    acquisitions from the estate of Sarah Gilmore King Wilmer. This could be so much more
    reasonable than to have them shipped. Barb Christensen has not decided where the art will be
    hung.
    2) Barb Christensen reported on the Code of Ethics the Art Center abides by.
    Building & Grounds:
    Mark Huddleston.

    Security –
     The new system is installed.  Security measures regarding the newly acquired 
    artwork were
     discussed.    
     
    2)
    Wall cap
     is completed and looks good.   Phase 1 is complete 
     
    3)
    Phase 2
     – Barb Christensen reported she is writing a new grant for Phase 2.

    – The Support Foundation for October was perused.
    Long Range Planning:
    No report.
    Budget Meeting with City:
    Barb Christensen reported that December 17 she will be meeting with
    The City Administrator and City Treasurer. Tom Spread will also attend.

    Minutes – October 21, 2010 Meeting 
    Program/Publicity
    : Mark Huddleston reported.
    1)
    Civil War show –
    A $53,000 grant request submitted to the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust.
    Barb Christensen reported that she had received just under $47,000.
    2)
    Sunday with Santa
    on November 14, 2010, from 1:00 – 5:00 pm. was a huge success.
    Over 750 people attended.
    3)
    The Friends Festival of Wreaths
    in the mansion on Saturday, November 20, 2010, from
    6:00 – 8:30 PM.
    4)
    Muscatine Book and Postcards
    – are now available.
    5)
    Richard and Sandy Toye Reception
    – A reception for the Toyes in conjunction with an
    exhibit of the Toyes’ gifts to the Art Center will be held November 30, 2010 at Tom Spread’s
    home.

    Unfinished Business
    : Tom Spread reported The Eckhardt Estate has nothing final yet.
    Tom is diligently trying to get a good interest rate.
