Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees

Present:
Caren Luke, Jan Henderson, David Meloy Tom Spread and Jeffrey Stone.
Absent:
Jennifer Conard, Mark Huddleston, Doug Krieger and Becky Wichers.

President, Tom Spread opened the meeting.
Visitors:
None present.
Minutes:
It was moved by David Meloy, seconded by Jeffrey Stone to approve the minutes of the
September 16, 2010 regular meeting. Motion carried.
Bills:
It was moved by David Meloy, seconded by Caren Luke to approve for payment monthly bills
totaling $4,962.91. Motion Carried. Caren Luke and Tom Spread signed the Schedule of Bills by Fund.
Credit Card Expenses
- It was moved by Caren Luke, seconded by Jan Henderson to approve for
payment monthly credit card expenses totaling $20.29. Motion carried. Caren Luke and Tom Spread
signed the Monthly Log of Credit Card Expenditures.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Collections:
Jan Henderson reported.
1) A donation of a signature Quilt from Lola Higgerson’s retirement from Heinz, a box of photos and
Heinz history information was received.
2) Roy J. and Patricia Carver, Jr. donated eight documents for the Blackwell Mansion.
Building & Grounds:
Tom Spread reported for Mark Huddleston.

Sidewalk work will not be completed until fall.

- Work begun on shingling the garage located in the parking lot.

– The monthly financials for July and August and the end of year financial reports
reviewed.
2)
Eckhardt Trust
papers signed by Barb Christensen. Court approved distribution and
termination of the trust. The Support Foundation to receive approximately $185,000.
3)
Louis E. and Ruth K. Eisner Trust
gifted $500.00 to the Art Center.
4)
Louis E. Eisner Estate
gifted $1,000.00 to the Art Center. Louis Eisner was a long-time
supporter of the Art Center.

Program/Publicity

Civil War show –
A $53,000 grant request submitted to the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust.
2)
Sunday with Santa
on November 14, 2010, from 1:00 – 5:00 pm.
3)
The Friends Festival of Wreaths
in the mansion on Saturday, November 20, 2010, from
6:00 – 8:30 PM.
4)
Halloween at the Y
is a safe, indoor trick or treat family event for all children 12 and under
on Friday, October 29, 2010, from 5:00 – 6:30 PM and 7:00 – 8:30 PM. The Art Center staff
will participate in this event.
5)
Crazy Quilt article
published in the Muscatine Journal picked up by the Associated Press
generated a lot of interest.
6)
Muscatine Book and Postcards
- The book and postcard packets will be available for
purchase at the Sunday with Santa event. Kristin McHugh-Johnston will also be available for
a book signing.
7)
Richard and Sandy Toye Reception
– A reception for the Toyes in conjunction with an
exhibit of the Toyes’ gifts to the Art Center will be held before the end of the year.

The Executor of the
Estate of Sarah Gilmore King Wilmer
(Granddaughter of Richard Drew and Sarah
Musser) contacted the Art Center. The Art Center is the recipient of a bequest from the estate of at least
12 pieces of art, one of which is the portrait of Peter Musser hanging in the front room alongside Laura.
The other gifted pieces are:
