Present:

In the absence of the President, Dave Meloy assumed the
role for this meeting.

Minutes:
It was moved by Mark Huddleston and seconded by Jan Henderson
that the minutes of the September 18, 2008 Board Meeting be approved. Motion
carried.
Bills:
It was moved by Mike Knott and seconded by Caren Luke to approve the
monthly bills totaling $1,890.39 for payment. Motion carried.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Collections:
Barb purchased an oil painting by Leroy Bobbitt entitled “Sunlight
in Amana” from a local dealer for $900. The painting, completed in 1941, is
typical of an Iowa Regionalist artist of the period and fits perfectly into the MAC’s
collection of 20
th
Century Iowa artist. Vernon Leroy Bobbitt was born in Pella,
Iowa in 1911 and was a teacher, painter and designer throughout his career.
The price was well below Barb’s authorized acquisition allowance so no formal
vote was required.
Barb purchased an immigrant trunk from Ms Suzie Harden of Rochester, Iowa.
The trunk was addressed to/owned by Claus Fick of Muscatine, Iowa. Barb paid
the asking price of $100.
Building & Grounds:
The bridges for the Oriental garden are in place and being painted by MAC staff.
The ponds have been sealed and painted.
Finance & Budget:
No report was received from the City.

Long-Range Planning:
Several issues are still being resolved before the
purchase of the house next door can be finalized. There is very little of
salvageable consequence in/on the house.
Barb is working on a grant that would be used to purchase large canvases for
every child in grades 1 thru 5 in the District. The canvases will be 6” x 6” and will
be used by the children to paint their own works of art. The program would start
in April 2009.
Personnel:
Board members were given their new committee assignments.
Program/Publicity
: The Festival of Wreaths is scheduled to open November
9th. The Grand Gala Finale Party and Silent Auction will be Saturday, November
15
th
.
The “Fairy Tale Art” exhibition opens November 9
th
.
