AIRPORT ADVISORY COMMISSION MINUTES
MONDAY – AUGUST 25, 2008
AIRPORT TERMINAL BUILDING
The Muscatine Airport Advisory Commission meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. Commission
members present were Phil Fitzgerald, Jerald Cale, and Wayne Tooman. Also present were City
Administrator A.J. Johnson and Airport Manager Janet Lewis.
The first item on the agenda was the approval of the April 28, 2008 minutes
It was moved by Commission member Tooman and seconded by Commission member Fitzgerald that
the minutes be approved. There was no discussion and the minutes were approved unanimously.
Under the construction and armory update, City Administrator Johnson indicated that the construction
of the crosswind runway taxiway was underway and that City Council recently approved Change Order #4 for
the project. Change Order #4 consists of the extension of the completion deadline to October 15, 2008 and to
add additional funds for rock for the base of the taxiway. City Administrator Johnson explained that the
project has been delayed by a number of weather-related issues and the contractor had to spend a considerable
amount of time “de-watering” the site. In addition, the City Administrator stated that the National Guard
Armory project will begin sometime in 2009. The City Administrator was in contact with the Iowa National
Guard representative on the project who indicated construction would begin at that time.
The City Administrator also shared with Commission members recent legislative issues as well as the
notification of denial of funds for the construction of the storage unit for the newly acquired snow removal
equipment.
There was a question concerning the delivery of the equipment. City Administrator Johnson did not
know the delivery date but would find out and distribute the information to Commission members.
There was also discussion concerning the establishment of a minimum standard for dispensing of fuel
as well as spraying for weeds on the tarmac and runway area.
The meeting adjourned at 5:50 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
A.J. Johnson
City Administrator
