Muscatine County Board of Supervisors
    Monday, January 7, 2008
    The Muscatine County Board of Supervisors met in regular session at 9:00 A.M. with
    Shoultz, Dean, Furlong, Kelly and Watkins present. Chairperson Furlong presiding.
    On a motion by Dean, second by Kelly, the agenda was approved as written. Ayes: All.
    On a motion by Watkins, second by Kelly, the Board approved an ordinance rezoning
    approximately 2.85 acres in Wapsie Township from A-1 Agricultural District to R-1
    Residential District on the second of three readings. Roll call vote: Ayes: All.
    On a motion by Watkins, second by Shoultz, the Board approved a request for a credit
    card for the County Recorder’s Office. Ayes: All.
    On a motion by Dean, second by Kelly, the Board accepted the County Treasurer’s
    Report of Fees Collected for the quarter ending December 31, 2007, in the amount of
    $225,184.60. Ayes: All.
    On a motion by Kelly, second by Dean, the Board accepted the County Recorder’s
    Report of Fees Collected for the quarter ending December 31, 2007, in the amount of
    $60,870.17. Ayes: All.
    On a motion by Kelly, second by Shoultz, minutes of the Wednesday, January 2, 2008
    regular meeting were approved as amended. Ayes: All.
    Correspondence:
    Furlong received a call regarding the condition of 275

    Street which he referred
    to the County Engineer.
    Shoultz received complaints from transport officers regarding a shortage of cell
    phones which he discussed with the Sheriff, who is taking care of the
    situation.
    On a motion by Shoultz, second by Watkins, the Board authorized the Chair to execute a
    contract with CAS, Inc. for cost allocation services for Muscatine County for FY08,
    FY09 and FY10. Ayes: All.
    On a motion by Watkins, second by Dean, the Board approved the appointment of
    volunteers to serve on a committee to develop a recommendation to the Board of
    Supervisors for a policy regarding tobacco usage on County property. Watkins stated that
    he would like to have someone from the Engineer’s Office and the Courthouse be
    encouraged to join the committee. Ayes: All. They are as follows: Mike Wade-Sheriff’s
    Office, Ann Bahn-Assessor’s Office, Cindy Gray-Recorder’s Office, Eric Furnas-Zoning,
    Mike Schmidt-Sheriff’s Office, Sara Creamer-Community Services, Susie Streets-
    Sheriff’s Office, Kim Olson-Treasurer’s Office, Curt Weiss-Conservation and Wayne
    Shoultz-Board of Supervisors.

    The Board stated that it was nice to see such a large turnout for the caucus with new
    people turning out for both parties.
    The meeting recessed at 9:16 A.M. and reconvened at 10:00 A.M. to hear budget requests
    for FY08/09 from outside agencies with Shoultz, Dean, Furlong, Kelly and Watkins
    present.
